Knowledge engineering and representation

Knowledge engineering is an issue related to the acquisition and processing of knowledge, where knowledge can be obtained both from human-experts and from learning systems. In this area, the work carried out by the researchers from the Silesian University of Technology includes knowledge represented in the form of classical binary rules but also focuses on the problem of processing imprecise and uncertain knowledge. In such scenarios applicable are: multi-valued logic, fuzzy logic, or the Dempster-Shafer theory. Another issue analyzed in this subarea is the problem of granularity and hierarchy (multi-level) structure of knowledge.
