Scientific communication and popularization of science - the only such studies in Poland

Recruitment for post-graduate studies in Science Communication and Popularization of Science carried out by the Centre for the Popularization of Science of the Silesian University of Technology is underway. These are the only studies of this type in Poland, the purpose of which is to educate scientists, popularisers of science, educators, teachers and people taking their first steps in the field of broadly understood scientific communication.

Effective communication of science to recipients with a diverse profile requires appropriate tools and competences. Postgraduate studies in science communication and popularization of science will prepare you to conduct activities based on the use of attractive methods of disseminating knowledge, modern communication channels, critical and creative problem solving, creating engaging content, as well as self-presentation and cooperation with the media. In addition, they offer knowledge on the legal protection of people who popularize and communicate science, as well as competences related to communication and cooperation in a creative team.

Classes will be conducted by experts with many years of experience in the field of communication and popularization of science, as well as in such areas as journalism, PR, journalism, education and higher education. Among the lecturers are:

  • Aleksandra Ziembińska-Buczyńska – microbiologist, scientist, director of the Centre for the Popularization of Science, promoter of science. She uses innovative forms of scientific communication and is the winner of many awards for popular science and scientific activities. She is also the vice-president of the Council for the Dissemination of Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
  • Dariusz Aksamit – physicist, educator and soft skills trainer. He was a co-founder and the first president of the Science Advocates Association. He is the chairman of the Council of the March for Science Foundation. He is a laureate of FameLab Polska, as well as the Populariser of Science 2019 award.
  • Iwona Flanczewska-Rogalska – TV journalist with over 20 years of experience. Academic lecturer in social communication and specialist journalism. A trainer in the field of public speaking, self-presentation and cooperation with the media.
  • Katarzyna Głuch-Juszkiewicz – radio journalist, science populariser and voice trainer. Author of educational cycles about the history of the region, the history of radio and ecology. Winner of the POP Science 2022 award in the popular science podcast category.
  • Jarosław Juszkiewicz – science journalist, lecturer, spokesperson for the Silesian Planetarium, author of popular science screenings. From 2021 in the Radio 357 team. Author of the first podcast for young people dedicated to astronomy and astronautics entitled "Head to space."
  • Tomasz Książczyk – active didactics trainer, doctor of biological sciences. He has many years of experience in educational work with children, youth and adults. He is the Ambassador of Space Education as part of the program operating at the Copernicus Science Centre in Warsaw.
  • Mateusz Lipka – spokesman for ZUT in Szczecin. A specialist in the field of creating engaging popular science content, media communication, advertising in social media, content marketing, and the basics of communication.
  • Natalia Osica – founder of 'pro science', the first company in Poland that supports scientists in building visibility. She advises them on how, where and when to inform about ongoing research projects and achieved successes in order to increase visibility and reach the desired audience.
  • Jan Stradowski – science journalist. For many years he worked in press editorial offices, such as "Gazeta Wyborcza", "Wprost" and "Focus". Currently, he is the managing editor of the "National Geographic" website. He hosts the "Man 2.0" program on TOK FM.

Participants of the postgraduate studies Science Communication and Popularization of Science will implement projects, e.g., in science centres and research centres or companies involved in the popularization of science.
