Scientific communication and popularization of science – the only such postgraduate studies in Poland

The recruitment for postgraduate studies “Scientific Communication and popularization of science” has begun. In the winter semester 2024/2025 students will be educated in this field in a hybrid formula – during on-site classes in Gliwice, as well as during online meetings.

Postgraduate studies “Scientific Communication and popularization of science” will be carried out over 2 semesters, during which students will take part in weekend workshop and project classes. Thirteen subjects will be held in a hybrid form – as on-site meetings at the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, as well as online. The first round of recruitment will last from 3rd June to 25th August 2024.

The studies will prepare, among others, for conducting activities based on the use of attractive methods of dissemination of knowledge, modern communication channels, critical problem solving, creating engaging content, as well as self-presentation and cooperation with the media. In addition, they offer knowledge on the legal protection of people who popularize and communicate science, as well as competences related to communication and cooperation in a creative team.

– “The Science Popularization Centre of the Silesian University of Technology is a unit that has been working for years in the field of scientific communication and popularization of science. We decided to turn our experience into postgraduate studies. We have invited a number of professionals who have been cooperating with us for years. They are both representatives of the media, formal and informal education who have prepared the study program. We focus on practical classes, during which we would like to share our experience and knowledge” – says Dr Hab. Aleksandra Ziembińska-Buczyńska, Prof. SUT, director of The Science Popularization Centre, originator of postgraduate studies.

Classes will be conducted by specialists with many years of experience in communication and popularization of science, as well as in such areas as journalism, PR, journalism, education, and higher education. Among the lecturers are Aleksandra Ziembińska-Buczyńska, Dariusz Aksamit, Iwona Flanczewska-Rogalska, Katarzyna Głuch-Juszkiewicz, Jarosław Juszkiewicz, Tomasz Książczyk, Mateusz Lipka, Natalia Osica, Jan Stradowski.

Postgraduate studies “Scientific Communication and popularization of science” are addressed, among others, to:

  • scientists who want to develop in the field of communication of science to both society and business,
  • people taking up work in the field of broadly understood education,
  • people taking their first steps in the role of science populariser, looking for areas of development and appropriate tools,
  • graduates of higher education institutions planning to take up work based on scientific communication, cooperation with the media.

Organizational information

Recruitment for studies lasts until 25th August 2024 and is possible by completing an electronic application on the recruitment website.

The duration of studies is two semesters.
