Remote teaching and work in a rotating system at the Silesian University of Technology

The Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, Professor Arkadiusz Mężyk, signed an ordinance on the organisation of education from 21 January and the principles of the University operation. All forms of education at the University will be conducted using distance learning methods and techniques.

Beginning 21 January 2022 at 3 p.m. until 28 February 2022 all forms of education at the Silesian University of Technology (first and second-cycle studies, full-cycle studies, doctoral education and other forms of education) will be conducted using distance learning methods and techniques.

The teaching and learning process shall be conducted according to the established timetable and workgroup division of students and doctoral students, using synchronous communication tools, i.e. Microsoft Teams or Zoom.

It is permitted to conduct contact mode classes requiring research and laboratory infrastructure or developing practical skills, as well as the necessary research as part of the preparation of diploma theses, engineering projects or PBL projects, or as part of the activities of student scientific associations under conditions determined by the Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Education.

Diploma examinations are to be conducted in a contact form. In particularly justified cases, it is allowed to conduct the diploma examination using electronic means of communication with the consent of the Rector at the request of the Deputy Dean for Education/Deputy Director for Education.

For the period from 24 January 2022 to 28 February 2022, a rotating system of remote work of non-academic staff shall be introduced in organisational units/units, which would minimise their presence together in official premises.

For this purpose, the heads of the organisational units/units will develop schedules of alternating on-site and remote work of employees, ensuring proper and uninterrupted functioning of the organisational unit/unit. In the event that non-academic staff are not able to perform remote work, they shall perform their work in an on-site mode, maintaining the principles of a sanitary regime.
