Golden Indexes of Silesian University of Technology distributed

The jubilee edition of the competition “For the golden index of the Silesian University of Technology” is completed.

On April 14th, 2026, a ceremony took place in the Senate Hall of the Silesian University of Technology, during which the winners from all over Poland received awards.

The “Golden Index of the Silesian University of Technology” competition is a cyclical, two-stage undertaking organized by the Silesian University of Technology. Its aim is to popularize science and technology among secondary school pupils and to select the most talented candidates for studies.

- Every year we have an increasing interest in the competition, which we are extremely happy about because these young people are our future. We would very much like all young people to come to the Silesian University of Technology, to be interested in exact sciences, but we also want the most talented people to come and this program is for this – explained Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Anna Chrobok, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Education of the Silesian University of Technology, who presented the awards and personally congratulated the winners. The Vice-Rector invited them to study within the walls of the Silesian University of Technology, presenting development opportunities, among others, by participating in research projects and a mentoring program.

- We keep statistics and we see that the winners of this competition really become our students later. We have places for them, we have secured places in the dormitories, we are waiting for them – she added.

The competition was conducted by subject committees appointed in particular fields, which included academic teachers. The first stage was completed in a remote format and consisted in solving the competition tasks independently. The participants who achieved the required point threshold were qualified for stage two. The second stage took place in an on-site formula.

After evaluating the works and collecting the results, the winners of the competition obtain the titles of the first, second and third degree. The first-degree laureates receive a guarantee of admission to most of the fields of study conducted by the Silesian University of Technology, while the second and third-degree winners receive additional points in the recruitment process.

Since its first edition in the academic year 2016/2017, the competition has shown a constant development trend, both in terms of the number of participants and the thematic scope. It covers four fields: mathematics, physics, chemistry and computer science, and its scope is nationwide and attracts students from many regions of Poland.

In the academic year 2025/2026, the tenth jubilee edition of the competition took place. 289 people entered the competition. 245 participants who scored at least 50% of points qualified to the second stage.

In this year’s edition, 73 people were awarded. Most of them – 39 people won prizes in the field of mathematics, 14 people in physics, 13 people in chemistry and 7 people in computer science.

A total of 35 first-degree prizes, 17 second-degree prizes and 21 third-degree prizes were awarded.

The growing number of winners with high scores in more than one field deserves particular emphasis, which proves the very high level of content of the participants. This year, 7 people won double prizes.

Among them is Jakub Sowula from Wodzisław Śląski. - After graduating from technical school, I have a plan to study chemistry or chemical engineering. For now, I am the winner of two third-degree awards, but I will try to get an index. Perhaps I will be a student of the Silesian University of Technology – he admitted.

Let us add that the competition has a nationwide scope – among the winners there were pupils from 33 schools from various cities, including Gdańsk, Gdynia, Poznań, Krakow, Toruń, Olsztyn or Krosno. The event is an important element of the promotion of the Silesian University of Technology and an effective tool for acquiring the most talented candidates for studies.
