Opening of the Center
The ceremonial opening of the Center for Climate and Environment Protection (COKiŚ) of the Silesian University of Technology took place on January 31, 2020 at the Center of New Technologies, where the headquarters of COKiŚ is also located. The ceremony was attended by the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk, President of Gliwice, Adam Neumann, and Chairman of the Board of the Metropolis Gliwice-Zagłębie, Kazimierz Karolczak. The guests were greeted by prof. Józef S. Pastuszka, Rector's Plenipotentiary for the Organization of the Climate and Environmental Protection Center. The organizer of the event was prof. dr hab. Eng. Janusz Kotowicz, Vice-Rector for Cooperation with the Social and Economic Environment.
A letter of intent in this matter was signed in 2018 by the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk, Dr. Bertrand Piccard, the then President of Gliwice Zygmunt Frankiewicz and Kazimierz Karolczak, Chairman of the Board of the Metropolis Gliwice-Zagłębie Metropolis.
