About the event
The Science Days, which will take place on 10 and 11 April, are an event at which the Silesian University of Technology will present its potential and achievements in identified priority research areas and invite employees, PhD students, undergraduates and external guests to visit key laboratories and become acquainted with the available research equipment.
The Science Days will begin on 10 April at 9 a.m. with the opening of a two-day international conference, during which participants, including outstanding foreign scientists with the status of Highly Cited Researcher and ERC grant recipients, will discuss the most important and current scientific problems and issues related to sustainable development and improving the health and well-being of the population. The topics discussed will focus on the Priority Research Areas (POBs) identified at Silesian University of Technology, on which the University has been focusing its development and brand building for the last five years, i.e.
- POB1 - Computational Oncology and Personalised Medicine - "The latest generations of genomic measurement technologies and their impact on diagnosis and treatment planning",
- POB2 - Artificial Intelligence and Data Processing - "Ethical and technical challenges of autonomous traffic",
- POB3 - Materials of the Future - "The future of electrode materials",
- POB4 - Smart Cities and Future Mobility - "Innovations in Smart Cities",
- POB5 - Process Automation and Industry 4.0 - "Digital Twins in Industry 4.0 – From Simulation to Intelligent Management",
- POB6 - Climate and environmental protection, modern energy - "Natural Hydrogen: A Game-Changer for the Energy Transition? Bridging Perspectives from the EU and US on Geology, Technology, and Policy".
The conference will be opened by a lecture by Prof. Luisa F. Cabeza, an outstanding scientist with the current status of Highly Cited Researcher, presently working at the University of Lleida, where she heads the GREiA research group specialising in thermal energy storage and energy efficiency in buildings. The opening of the conference and the professor's lecture will be streamed live on the YouTube profile of the Silesian University of Technology.
The conference is aimed at both academics and the socio-economic environment: local governments, business and industry representatives and NGOs. Among the invited speakers, guests and panellists will be researchers from the Silesian University of Technology, industry authorities, as well as outstanding specialists and researchers from foreign universities.
The conference will take place on 10 and 11 April from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Hall A of the Education and Congress Centre of the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, ul. Konarskiego 18B.
To confirm your participation, it is necessary to register, which will start on 19 March on the registration website.
The conference will be held in English with simultaneous translation into Polish.
The conference is free of charge.
The event will be supplemented by the opportunity to visit the modern facilities and key laboratories of the Silesian University of Technology, which will be open to employees, doctoral students, students and invited guests on April 10 and 11 from 12:00 to 16:30. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about advanced research equipment and its potential applications in ongoing scientific projects. In addition, a campus tour is planned for guests from outside the University.
