The Zakamarek Art Gallery and the Silesian University of Technology Employees' Club invite you to an exhibition by Iwona Matkowska - UPsiDe Down, an exhibition of Riso prints. Born in 1994 in Jelenia Góra, she graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław (2018), where she obtained a degree in graphic design under the supervision of Prof. Andrzej Moczydłowski and in graphic arts under Prof. Christopher Nowicki. Since 2020, she has been employed at her alma mater as an assistant in the Letter and Publishing Forms Studio at the Faculty of Graphic Arts and Media Art. Her research and design interests focus on typography, publishing composition, and printing techniques. She collaborates with cultural and scientific institutions, including the University of Wrocław, Ossolineum, BWA Wrocław, Strefa Kultury Wrocław, and the SEXED.PL foundation. Exhibition: UPsiDE-Down Reversed order is the key to understanding this exhibition. It is not just about literally reversing the text, but overturning conventions and undermining the rigid rules of typographic design. Each work is a manifesto against digital sterility and perfectionism, celebrating error, texture, and chance, which are an integral part of the Riso printing process. At the heart of this exhibition is Riso-analog technology, a fast and eco-friendly printing method that has become a contemporary tool for artistic experimentation. Vibrant fluorescent colors, impossible to achieve in traditional digital printing, and grainy texture are the technical specifications of the technique that give typographic compositions their depth. The letter ceases to be a carrier of information. |
