Graduate qualifications
Graduates have thorough knowledge and skills in basic disciplines of technical sciences, materials science, modern manufacturing technologies, processing and recycling of engineering materials, as well as methods of studying and shaping their structure, and examining mechanical and physicochemical properties. They know how to select and use materials, predict and increase the durability of products, taking into account computer-aided materials engineering, and refine materials through the use of modern volume and surface processing technologies. Graduates of the Materials Engineering course are prepared to undertake versatile engineering, business and scientific/research activities directly in the production, processing and improvement of various types of metal, ceramic, polymer and composite materials. They find employment in production departments of large plants, quality assurance departments, research and development departments, design offices as well as in small and medium-sized manufacturing companies, research and technical consulting enterprises, as well as in companies dealing with the transfer of materials and technologies.

Graduate profile

Graduates of the second-cycle course in Materials Engineering have knowledge and skills in the selection and design of engineering materials for applications in industrial practice; technology of their production; material processing; methods of shaping and examining the properties and structure of engineering materials. Graduates are prepared to undertake engineering activities, directly in the production, processing, improvement and quality control of materials, as well as activities that support material and technological design in the industry and business units. They also have basic skills in teamwork and team management, crisis management and interpersonal communication. They know how to skilfully use specialist computer software and take advantage of technical and business consultancy in the selection of engineering materials. The acquired knowledge predisposes them to work in production departments of large plants, in quality assurance departments, research and development teams, and design offices. They are prepared to work in large, medium and small manufacturing, service and commercial companies, as well as in technical consulting companies dealing with the transfer of materials and technologies. A graduate of the materials engineering course will be a specialist in undertaking engineering, economic and research and development activities in a number of industries: automotive, power engineering, aviation, metallurgy; in the production, processing, selection, improvement and quality control of mainly metallic, but also ceramic, polymer and composite materials.
