Establishment of the Institute of Metallurgy and the Institute of Materials Engineering by merging the Cathedral of Raw Material Metallurgy with part of the Cathedral of Steel, Alloys and Plastic Processing (Director of the Institute: prof. dr inż. Stanisław Tochowicz). Two teams functioned within the Institute: the Iron Metallurgy Team (Head: prof. dr hab. inż. Leszek Król) and the Steel and Alloy Metallurgy Team (Head: doc. dr hab. inż. Zygmunt Klisiewicz). Establishment of the Institute of Materials Engineering by merging the Cathedral of Materials Science and Technology with part of the Cathedral of Steel, Alloys and Plastic Processing (Director: prof. dr hab. inż. The Department of Machinery and Equipment of the Ceramic Industry in the Institute of Fuel Energy was liquidated and the Institute of Machinery and Equipment of the Metallurgical and Ceramic Industry was established in Dąbrowa Górnicza

The University-Industrial Center was abolished, and the Institute of Materials Engineering was given the status of an internal research and teaching unit of the Faculty of Metallurgy of the Silesian University of Technology again.

The Faculty of Metallurgy is transformed into the Faculty of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, with four institutes: metallurgy, non-ferrous metals, materials engineering, and energy and metallurgical equipment
1.10.1992 
From the merger of the Cathedral of Management and the Social Science Center, the Institute of Organization and Business Management located in the Faculty of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering is formed. After the incorporation of the Institute of Transportation and the Social Science Center, the Department changes its name to the Faculty of Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, Transportation and Management.

In the Cathedral of Metallurgy, the Department of Metallurgical Process Fundamentals was abolished. The Cathedral of Mechanics and Metal Forming Technology changed its name to the Cathedral of Process Modeling and Medical Engineering. Two new departments were established in the Cathedral of Medical Engineering Process Modeling: Process and Production Systems Modeling and Medical Engineering. The Center for Graduate Studies, New Technologies and Industrial Restructuring was renamed the Faculty Center for Graduate Studies. Two new cathedrals were created: the Mechanics of Materials and Technological Process Management, with the division into two departments: Technology and Environmental Management and Integrated Systems Management.

The Cathedral of Process Modeling and Medical Engineering, the Cathedral of Electrical Engineering with its internal organizational structure, the Cathedral of Process Power Engineering, the Cathedral of Mechanics of Materials, the Cathedral of Alloy and Composite Technology, and the Cathedral of Technological Process Management with its internal organizational structure were abolished. In their place, the following cathedrals were established: Materials Technology (Head: prof. dr hab. inż. Józef Śleziona), Management and Computer Science (Head: dr hab. Tadeusz Wieczorek, prof. PŚ)

Marek Cieśla, prof. PŚ). The Cathedral of Materials Science was transformed into the Institute of Materials Science (Director: dr hab. inż. Grzegorz Niewielski, prof. PŚ.) along with the departments: Ceramics and Composites (Head: prof. dr hab. inż. Małgorzata Sopicka –Lizer), Heat and Surface Treatment (Head: dr hab. inż. Lucjan Swadźba, prof. The Institute of Metal Technology was transformed into the Cathedral of Extractive Metallurgy and Environmental Protection (Director: dr hab. inż. Jerzy Łabaj, prof. PŚ). The Institute of Materials Science was transformed into the Institute of Materials Engineering (Director: dr hab. inż. Dariusz Kuc, prof. PŚ.), along with the departments: Ceramics, Composites and Foundry Technologies (Director: dr hab. inż. Grzegorz Moskal, prof. PŚ), Surface Engineering and Plastic Processing (Director: dr hab. inż. Bogusław Mendala, prof. PŚ), Research and Mechanics of Materials (Director: dr hab. inż. Andrzej Kiełbus, prof. PŚ).
