New grant for Sajida Maryam
We are happy to inform that Sajida Maryam was granted funding for the realization of her project "Assessment of the efficacy of Sonotek Technology in achieving uniform antimicrobial coatings on tubular catheters". The aim of the project is to develop an ultrasound-assisted coating of a biopolymer using a Sono-Tek ultrasonic coating system. To assess its effectiveness, she plans to use chitosan as an antimicrobial polymer, and to further modify it with copper sulfate. Formed coatings will be assesses against two different microbes: Staphylococcus epidermidis and Candida albicans, which represent two of the most prevalent bacterial and fungal pathogens, respectively. Biocompatibility of coatings will be assessed towards fibroblast cells.
The project is supported from the Rector's grant available under the Excellence Initiative - Research University program.
Congratulations!
