SGroup PhD Cup - Training and Competition in Science Communication

SGroup - Universities in Europe is welcoming applications for the SGroup PhD Cup 2023!

 

This initiative comprises academic speaking and presentation skills training facilitated by experts and a 3-minutes thesis pitch competition in two rounds. Participants will have an opportunity for professional development, recognition, networking and to compete to a PhD Mobility Grant of up to 1000€ to carry out research abroad.

 

The training is focused on the development of research students' capacity to explain their work effectively, reach new audiences and share knowledge and data as early as possible with all relevant actors.

Each SGroup university has a spot for one participant granted. There is no limit to applications to be submitted per institution. The applicant from each university who receives the highest score from the jury will be invited to participate in the training and the following steps of the competition. There is no need for pre-selection. However, if you wish to, you can approach PhD researchers directly and invite them to apply.

1.      What is SGroup PhD Cup?

In this programme, SGroup PhD candidates can benefit from soft skill training funded by SGroup and compete to receive one PhD Mobility Grant of up to 1000€ to carry out research abroad. 

The training will be focused on rhetoric skills and communicating research results with wide audiences. The competition is based on the 3-Minutes Thesis pitch model.

 

2.      Who can participate?

 

The participation is open to PhD students (active doctoral researchers are eligible if they have already achieved research results to share in their pitch) from the SGroup member and associate member universities. Graduates are not eligible.

Eligible candidates can submit their applications using this form until March 31, 2023.

3.      When will it take place?

The selected participants as well as the respective SGroup Liaison Officer and General Assembly Representatives will be informed via email in April 2023.

The training will take place online on 19 and 20 June and each selected participant shall submit their pitch for the competition by 30 June. All selected participants will receive a certificate. The 10 candidates with the highest scores will be announced in July.

 

The top 5 finalists will be invited to present their pitch live and receive their prize in person at the SGroup PhD Cup Final Ceremony at the SGroup’s Annual Meetings, namely during the Think Tank Academy Conference, on 26 October 2023, in the University of Cantabria, Spain.
