Dr Aleksandra Lipczyńska once again part of the KOWiTO team

We are pleased to announce that after a research internship in Singapore, Dr. Aleksandra Lipczyńska joined our team again as research and didactic assistant professor. Welcome back!

After obtaining a doctoral degree at our University, in 2016-2018 Dr. Lipczyńska completed a 3-year postdoctoral scholar position at Berkeley Education Alliance for Research in Singapore (BEARS). BEARS is a non-profit company founded in 2011 by the University of California, Berkeley (UCB). Dr. Lipczyńska's research work was part of the Singapore-Berkeley Building Efficiency and Sustainability in the Tropics (SinBerBEST) program. SinBerBEST is a research program implemented by an interdisciplinary group of scientists from UCB, BEARS, National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang University of Technology. Dr. Lipczyńska worked in a group of scientists organized under the theme "Human-Building Nexus: Enhancing health and productivity in the built environment", chaired by Prof. Stefano Schiavon (UCB) and Prof. Kwok Wai Tham (NUS).

Dr. Lipczyńska conducted research on the impact of increased air movement and temperature on thermal comfort, the level of satisfaction and productivity of office workers as well as energy consumption for the HVAC needs of a building. In addition to conducting research in climatic and field chambers, Dr. Lipczyńska participated in a project implementing construction technologies developed by SinBerBEST in a real facility. This project aims to create a "living laboratory", demonstrating the possibility of reducing energy consumption without compromising user comfort and indoor environmental quality. The constructed office space has an area of approx. 740 m2 and is designed for approx. 65 employees. Dr. Lipczyńska was the technological leader of the team dealing with the integrated air conditioning, ventilation and fan systems. This system is aimed at reducing energy consumption for air conditioning and increasing user satisfaction thanks to the use of optimized control systems based on the readings of sensors located in the occupied zone and the individual thermal preferences of the facility users.

Below we present the 2019 spring issue of the SinBerBEST magazine, in which a short interview with Dr. Lipczyńska was published, summarizing her work in Singapore.
