REHVA and ASHRAE guidelines for COVID-19
In response to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2), experts from REHVA (Federation of European Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Associations) and ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers) developed guidance documents and bibliography on the operation and use of construction services in areas where the coronavirus outbreak has broken out. This is to prevent the spread of the virus due to factors related to HVAC or plumbing.
Recently, new evidence has emerged that SARS-CoV-2 is transmitted through the air, recognizing the long-range spread of aerosols. This made the role of ventilation measures in efforts to reduce transmission risk in buildings more apparent. The latest version of the REHVA guidelines focuses on how to re-open and safely use buildings after they are closed, gives advice on specific components, buildings and space types, and suggests mitigation measures. Current details can be found on the dedicated REHVA website: https://www.rehva.eu/activities/covid-19-guidance
ASHRAE has published two statements to define guidelines for managing the spread of COVID-19 for the operation and maintenance of HVAC systems in buildings. ASHRAE recommends operators keep rebooting their systems during this time to help control the spread of the virus. Read the official statements and related guidelines on ASHRAE's official COVID-19 website: www.ashrae.org/covid19
