JAŚMIN officially opened!
With great pride, we announce that the Multienvironment Automated Crisis Management System JAŚMIN Laboratory has been officially opened at the Department of Safety Engineering at the Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering and Industrial Automation of the Silesian University of Technology. Not long ago, we shared updates about the intensive work underway to prepare this facility — today, we are pleased to report that the laboratory is fully operational and beginning its educational and research activities.
The laboratory was created by the Department of Safety Engineering, and its establishment would not have been possible without the tremendous commitment of Dr. Maja Taraszkiewicz‑Łyda, who played a key role throughout the entire process: from the initial concept, through organization and equipment selection, to providing ongoing academic supervision of the new space.
The official opening ceremony was attended by, among others, the Silesian Voivode Marek Wójcik, representatives of local governments, public services, and university authorities.
A new educational space for future safety specialists
The JAŚMIN Laboratory is a place where our Safety Engineering students can work with technologies used in real crisis response operations. It is an environment that allows them to combine theoretical knowledge with practical application, develop operational competencies, and prepare for work in public administration, emergency services, and institutions responsible for national security.
We are proud to offer our students access to infrastructure that meets the current needs of the public safety system.
JAŚMIN – a system of strategic importance
The JAŚMIN Crisis Management System is an advanced, integrated ICT solution that:
-
supports the activities of public administration and emergency services,
-
cooperates with the national crisis management system,
-
is compatible with NATO and European Union solutions,
-
enables the creation of a shared real‑time operational picture,
-
supports command, planning, and response processes.
It is a dual‑use solution, applied in both civilian and military contexts. This allows our students to learn using a system that is actively employed within national security structures.
The laboratory’s importance for the region and inter‑institutional cooperation
The opening of the laboratory marks an important step in the development of the Department of Safety Engineering’s educational infrastructure and in strengthening cooperation between the university, public administration, and emergency services. The new space will:
-
enable advanced exercises and simulations,
-
support training for services and administration in coordinated operations,
-
serve as a venue for research on modern safety technologies,
-
contribute to enhancing the level of safety in the region.
As the Department of Safety Engineering, we are proud to develop infrastructure that has a real impact on the quality of education and public safety. The opening of the JAŚMIN Laboratory is the result of collective effort, dedication, and a shared vision for development — and at the same time, it marks the beginning of further initiatives we plan to pursue in the field of modern safety technologies.
