Work Safety in the World of Modern Technologies – Conference at the Silesian University of Technology

On 18 March 2026, the conference “Work Safety in the World of Modern Technologies” was held at the Education and Congress Centre of the Silesian University of Technology. The event was co‑organised by the District Labour Inspectorate in Katowice and the Silesian University of Technology, with the Department of Safety Engineering playing a particularly active role.

The meeting brought together representatives of the National Labour Inspectorate, the academic community, and practitioners involved in occupational safety and health. The conference was part of the nationwide series “Vision ZERO – from Awareness to Action”, aimed at strengthening the culture of safety and preventing workplace accidents.

Representatives of the Silesian University of Technology actively contributed to the programme:

  • Dr Eng. Ewelina Włodarczyk, who delivered a presentation on modern approaches to training occupational safety specialists, highlighting the need to develop future‑oriented competencies and the use of immersive technologies in education.

  • Dr hab. Eng. Małgorzata Wyganowska, Professor of the Silesian University of Technology, Head of the Department of Safety Engineering, who participated as an expert in a discussion panel, addressing the challenges associated with technological transformation and its impact on workplace safety.

During the conference, the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, Prof. Marek Pawełczyk, expressed his appreciation for the commitment of the Department of Safety Engineering to advancing research and education in the field of occupational safety. He extended special thanks to Prof. Małgorzata Wyganowska, acknowledging her contribution to organising the event and her consistent efforts to promote a culture of safety.

As part of the exhibition area, the Department of Safety Engineering prepared a VR demonstration stand, where participants could test virtual reality goggles used in the training of occupational safety specialists. The presentation attracted considerable interest and showcased how immersive technologies can support the development of competencies related to workplace safety.

The conference served as an important platform for exchanging experiences and presenting the latest technological solutions supporting occupational safety. Participants emphasised that in a rapidly changing technological environment, responsible implementation of innovations and continuous development of employee competencies remain essential.
