Department of Inorganic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry and Electrochemistry RCH1

We are pleased to announce that Maciej Gdala, a second-cycle student of Inorganic Technology and Electrochemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry of the Silesian University of Technology, has received an award in the nationwide competition organised by the Polish Corrosion Society (PSK) for the best thesis related to corrosion – “Rust or Gold?”

The awarded engineering thesis, entitled “Incorporation of solvent dyes into oxide layers formed on light metal alloys”, was carried out at the Department of Inorganic, Analytical Chemistry, and Electrochemistry under the supervision of dr inż. Maciej Sowa.

The competition is organised cyclically by the Polish Corrosion Society (PSK), and the award was presented during the PractiCorr 2025 International Conference (25–27 November 2025), dedicated to corrosion and anticorrosion protection technologies.
Mr Maciej Gdala received the award in person during today’s conference session, which further emphasised the ceremonial significance of this distinction. Additionally, he was invited to deliver a 15-minute oral presentation summarising the results of his engineering thesis — a clear mark of recognition by the professional community.

It is worth noting that the thesis topic was closely related to the research carried out within the NCBR LIDER project conducted at the Silesian University of Technology in 2021–2024 (project no. LIDER/30/0116/L-11/19/NCBR/2020, project leader: dr inż. Maciej Sowa, total project value and NCBR funding: 1,500,000.00 PLN).
