Graduates have knowledge of microbiology, genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, computer science, physics and biophysics, and chemistry. They are familiar with reactor engineering, mass and heat transfer, biocatalysis and biotransformation, genetic engineering, and modern methods for analysing chemical compounds and biological samples. Their knowledge of intelligent data analysis techniques enables them to process large datasets for biomedical applications. They can apply techniques for selecting and modifying microorganisms and cells of higher organisms, as well as design and operate facilities for environmental protection, such as wastewater treatment plants, biogas plants, and biorefineries.

Graduates of the Biotechnology programme find employment in specialist laboratories, research institutes, medical centres, the food, pharmaceutical and chemical industries, environmental protection and the circular economy, as well as bioinformatics and IT centres. They can work in organisations involved in genetic research, medical diagnostics, big data analysis, biosynthesis and biotransformation processes, bioproduct manufacturing, and bioprocess modelling.
