a) Local network separation
According to the Regulations of the Computer Network of the Silesian University of Technology, an organisational unit that owns or creates its own local network applies to the Rector for a local network.
b) Network administrator
On the basis of the consent obtained, the unit must establish a network administrator and register him/her with the CK. The Registered Administrator performs all technical, organisational and administrative activities related to the administered network on behalf of the unit, in particular this means that he/she can contact the CK directly on all matters related to the local network administered by him/her (no confirmation from the Unit Manager is required each time).
Requests from other persons will be referred by CK to the relevant localAdministrator.
c) Device register
Units must register in an internal registry any devices connected to the network.
d) Services available on the network
Any type of service made available by a unit outside its network may be launched only after obtaining the consent of the relevant Local Network Administrator and must be registered with the CK. In the case of non-standard services (other than Telnet, FTP, SSH, WWW), the provision of a service is subject to the approval of the Director of the CK.
e) Wireless computer network equipment
When setting up a wireless network, care should be taken to ensure that it does not interfere with existing networks (based on the CK's register of wireless networks), that access to the network is properly controlled (ideally using the eduroam system) and that it is registered with the CK.
