Open Seminar: The Boundary Element Method in the Analysis of Mechanical Properties of Materials with Complex Microstructural Geometry

We cordially invite you to the next Open Seminar organized by the Chair of Fundamentals of Machinery Design at the Silesian University of Technology, devoted to the application of the Boundary Element Method (BEM) in the analysis of mechanical properties of materials characterized by complex microstructural geometries.

The lecture will present the principal advantages, theoretical foundations, and selected applications of BEM in the analysis of materials containing multiple branched cracks, as well as composite materials reinforced with randomly distributed rigid fibers. Methods for determining displacement and stress fields in materials subjected to both static and dynamic loading conditions will be discussed, along with approaches for evaluating their effective elastic properties. Particular emphasis will be placed on the phenomenon of stress concentration in the vicinity of crack tips and reinforcing fibers, which can be accurately analyzed using the BEM framework.

The speaker:

Prof. Piotr Fedeliński, PhD, DSc, Eng. — a faculty member of the Chair of Mechanics and Computational Engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Silesian University of Technology. His research focuses on the theoretical foundations and applications of the Boundary Element Method in structural shape optimization, dynamic problems, fracture mechanics, and micromechanics. He has conducted research at universities in Denmark, the United Kingdom, and Brazil, and is a member of the Committee on Mechanics of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
