He is also with the Systems Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw, Poland. Dr. Pedrycz is a foreign member of the Polish Academy of Sciences and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. He is a recipient of several awards including Norbert Wiener award from the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society, IEEE Canada Computer Engineering Medal, a Cajastur Prize for Soft Computing from the European Centre for Soft Computing, a Killam Prize, a Fuzzy Pioneer Award from the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, and 2019 Meritorious Service Award from the IEEE Systems Man and Cybernetics Society.

His main research directions involve Computational Intelligence, Granular Computing, and Machine Learning, among others.

Professor Pedrycz serves as an Editor-in-Chief of Information Sciences, Editor-in-Chief of WIREs Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery (Wiley), and Co-editor-in-Chief of Int. J. of Granular Computing (Springer) and J. of Data Information and Management (Springer).

Noemí Merayo is Telecommunications Engineer since 2004 and PhD since 2009 by the University of Valladolid. Since 2005 she has been working as a lecturer at the University of Valladolid and is a Senior Lecturer in the Optical Communications Group, coordinator of the Interuniversity Master ‘Physics and Technology of Lasers’ and Deputy Director of Students and Quality at the High School of Telecommunication Engineering. Her main research focuses on the design and performance evaluation of optical networks, and the application of artificial intelligence and natural language processing techniques in multidisciplinary fields. She has carried out research stays at the University of Hertforshire (UK), the University of Zaragoza, the Technical University of Munich and the Pontifical University of Valparaíso (Chile).  She is the author of more than 45 publications in peer-reviewed journals and more than 90 conference papers. She has participated in more than 25 regional, national and international competitive projects, mainly focused on optical networks, artificial intelligence, edge architectures and connected vehicles.

Another of her lines of research is the integration of e-learning and mobile-learning technologies in higher education. She has participated in more than 30 Educational Innovation Projects, several of them awarded by institutions, being the author of several publications in journals and conferences on Educational Innovation. She is currently leading the university project InGenias, to increase technological vocations especially among girls, awarded by different national institutions.
