Youth of the Regional Weimar Triangle with a visit to the Silesian University of Technology
Over fifty students and secondary school pupils, participants of the Regional Weimar Triangle Youth Summit, visited the Silesian University of Technology. The visit was an opportunity to present the university's scientific potential and get to know its modern laboratories.
The host of this year's Regional Weimar Triangle Youth Summit is the Silesian Voivodeship. Young people from France, Germany and Poland are visiting the Silesian Voivodeship until July 12. The motto of the summit is "Science and new technologies - a challenge for the future." During their visit to the Silesian University of Technology, the youth visited the Centre of New Technologies and the Institute of Physics - Centre for Science and Education.
- We presented young people with the educational offer and scientific research carried out at the Silesian University of Technology, and then invited them to visit our interesting and modern laboratories at the Institute of Physics, including: Laboratory of Electron Spectroscopies and Functional Materials, where young people saw highly specialized research equipment - said Dr Hab. Eng. Anna Kaźmierczak-Bałata, Prof. SUT, from the Institute of Physics.

As emphasized by Dr Hab. Eng. Sławomira Pawełczyk, Prof. SUT, during such visits, young people can see how modern the Silesian University of Technology is. - Our potential is very large. We often have guests from abroad who are fascinated by what we do and how significant an impact we have on global science, that we are a large research centre that goes hand in hand with leading universities - says Prof. Pawełczyk.
The Silesian University of Technology was visited by over fifty people - secondary school graduates and students from Poland, France, Germany and Ukraine. One of the participants of the Youth Summit of the Regional Weimar Triangle was Oliver Stefański, a computer science student at the Silesian University of Technology.
- I think that participating in an event such as the Youth Summit is an opportunity to develop, gain experience, but also look at the challenges of the future that concern each of us. It is also an opportunity to exchange knowledge and cooperate with people who have completely different views, says Oliwier.
- The motto of this year's summit is "Science and new technologies - a challenge for the future." That is why we want to present the voice of young people about new technologies, their concerns and expectations - adds Maciej Geratowski, a student of the University of Silesia and councillor of the Youth Assembly of the Silesian Voivodeship.

Students from Ukraine were also guests of this year's summit. – This meeting is not only an opportunity for me to visit interesting places in Poland but also to meet colleagues from other countries – emphasizes Nikita Rybak.
The Regional Weimar Triangle is a tripartite agreement between the regions: Silesian Voivodeship, North Rhine-Westphalia and Hauts-de-France. The Regional Weimar Triangle Youth Summit is a project implemented since 2001. It is attended by a selected group of young people interested in European issues, active and involved in the life of the local community. Additionally, since Russia's aggression against Ukraine, representatives of Ukraine have been invited to participate in the summit. This year, the host of the meeting was the Silesian Voivodeship.
