Young people are interested in studying at the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology
Over two hundred candidates for studies from the Silesian Voivodeship and even from outside the region took part in the Open Day of the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology. The event allowed secondary school pupils to get acquainted with the offer of studies, but also to talk with current students of the faculty and see modern laboratories located in the Zabrze campus of the Silesian University of Technology.
The Open Day at the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering was an excellent opportunity to encourage secondary school pupils to study at the Faculty.
- We always prepare a lecture that is supposed to interest young people in the subject of biomedical engineering. As part of the cycle “Biomedical Engineering around us”, more than 20 such lectures have already been delivered. This is a way to popularize the field that we offer students as a field of education for the future – announced the dean of the faculty prof Zbigniew Paszenda. According to the Dean, biomedical engineering is becoming more and more popular because it opens up wide possibilities for people who are interested in medicine, but for some reason they do not want or cannot study in medicine. It is a great alternative to supporting the world of medicine, but in a different way than treatment.
During the lecture “What our body gives”, the youth learned what data is stored in the body and what they serve. After such a dose of knowledge, visitors to the Zabrze facility could get acquainted with the activities of the Student Scientific Circles operating at the Faculty.
- I presented what we do in SKN Synergy. I talked about all the materials that can be used in medicine. In a nutshell, I talked about implants for bones, for the circulatory system and I hope that it interested future students - said dr Eng. Anna Taratuta. As it turned out, the pupils present were eager to ask questions and were interested in the offer of the faculty.
However, the most popular among candidates for studies were visits to modern laboratories located in the building adjacent to the faculty at the European HealthTech Innovation Centre (EHTIC) Students can use these modern facilities in cooperation with scientists in scientific circles and in the implementation of joint projects. The youth saw, among others, a laboratory in the field of anthropometry, biomechatronics, technologies used in dental prosthetics, as well as biomorphic materials. Candidates for studies could see the equipment with their own eyes and ask questions to scientists and staff working at the faculty.
I have been here for the third time. Every day I study at the Academic Secondary Comprehensive School in Rybnik and I am looking for a field of future studies for myself. I do not hide that the possibility of seeing laboratories from the inside helps in making a choice about what to do next – said Filo Jurczyk, who had the opportunity to test the so-called lie detector.
