Scientists of the Silesian University of Technology at the Academy of Engineering in Poland
On September 15th , 2022, in the representative Senate Hall of the Warsaw University of Technology, the General Assembly of the Academy of Engineering in Poland was held. During the meeting, new members of the AIP were elected. They are: the Vice-Rector of the Silesian University of Technology for General Affairs, Prof. Bogusław Łazarz and the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology in the terms 1996-2002, Prof. Bolesław Pochopień.
At the beginning, the invited guests took the floor: Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering Wojciech Urbański, Professor of the University representing the Warsaw University of Technology, and representatives of the patrons of the 30th anniversary of AIP: actual member of the Polish Academy of Sciences Prof. Tadeusz Kaczorek, Vice-Rector for International Affairs of the Poznan University of Technology Prof. Paweł Śniatała representing the Rector of the University, and at the same time the Chairman of the Conference of Rectors of Polish Technical Schools Prof. Teofil Jesionowski and President of FSNT-NOT Ewa Mankiewicz-Cudny, M.A.
In the official part of the Assembly, prof. Tadeusz Kaczorek, celebrating his 90th birthday this year, was awarded the Gabriel Narutowicz Medal, the highest distinction awarded by AIP to outstanding engineers. The medal was presented by the President of AIP Prof. Jerzy Barglik, the Chairwoman of the Medal Chapter, Ewa Mankiewicz Cudny, MSc, and the Rector of the Warsaw University of Technology in the terms 2012-2020, Prof. Jan Szmidt. Let us remind you that Prof. Tadeusz Kaczorek is an honorary doctor of several universities, including the Silesian University of Technology.
The AIP General Assembly elected eight new members of the Academy by secret ballot. The procedure for admitting new members consists of several stages. After submitting the application by the Candidate and a positive opinion of three AIP members, the candidacy is assessed by the statutory body of the AIP - the Membership Council. The General Assembly decides on admission to the AIP by secret ballot, with the support of 2/3 of the votes cast required. The new members of the AIP are: Vice-Rector of the Silesian University of Technology for General Affairs Prof. Bogusław Łazarz and Rector of the Silesian University of Technology in the terms of office 1996-2002 Prof. Bolesław Pochopień. Diplomas and membership cards were awarded by the President of AIP Prof. Jerzy Barglik and the Chairman of the Membership Council Prof. Slawczo Denczew
The new AIP authorities were elected for the term 2022-2026. Prof. Jerzy Barglik was re-elected as the President of the AIP, and the Audit Committee includes Dr. Albert Smalcerz, Professor of the Silesian University of Technology.
The occasional lecture entitled "The first years of the Warsaw University of Technology" was delivered by Dr. Andrzej Ulmer, director of the Museum of the Warsaw University of Technology. More information about the Assembly can be found on the AIP website at: https://akademiainzynierska.pl.
It is worth adding that according to the statute, the number of AIP members cannot exceed 300 people. Currently 10 scientific employees of the Silesian University of Technology, including the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology are the members of AIP.
