XXIX National Chemistry Competition of the Silesian University of Technology

For the 29th time, the National Chemistry Competition was held at the Silesian University of Technology. The event was attended by secondary school pupils from all over Poland. The event is an opportunity for young people to develop their interests in the field of chemistry, as well as to get to know our University.

This year's edition took place after a three-year break. The competition was attended by 86 pupils from 28 schools in seven provinces: Śląskie, Małopolskie, Dolnośląskie, Opolskie, Mazowieckie, Łódzkie and Podkarpackie. The best participants were selected after two competition rounds. In the written part, which took place on March 4, 2023, students had the opportunity to present their theoretical knowledge. The best 17 participants qualified for the finals, and on March 16th they faced a laboratory task. 

The winners were those who showed the greatest knowledge and ingenuity. Maciej Multan from V  Prince Józef Poniatowski  Secondary Comprehensive School  ( LO ) in Warsaw, Kacper Jakubowski from III Adam Mickiewicz LO  in Katowice and Łukasz Talaga from III Adam Mickiewicz LO  in Wrocław. The winners received cash prizes and the other winners received book prizes.

Not only pupils were honoured during the competition. Teachers who prepared their pupils for the eliminations and finals also received prizes. Gift cards were given to all teachers of the finalists, and special book prizes funded by the Teachers’ Union Council at the Silesian University of Technology and Solidarność Trade Union  at the Silesian University of Technology were awarded to: Hubert Bednarski, MA, Monika Gałkiewicz, PhD and Piotr Połomka, PhD, who prepared the winners of places 1-3.

Sponsors of the 29th Chemistry Competition: Energopomiar, NITROERG SA, Syntal Chemicals, JSW Koks SA and EKOMAX provided financial support and prizes for the winners. The competition was organized by the Faculty of Chemistry of the Silesian University of Technology, the Association of Friends of the Faculty of Chemistry and Gliwice, and a branch of the Polish Chemical Society.
