XVI Conference on Fundamental Problems of Metrology 2024 at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering

On 5-7 June 2024 at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, the XVI Conference on Fundamental Problems of Metrology 2024 (PPM’24) took place.

The subject of the conference included the basic, common to all measurements, metrological issues: technical, technological, theoretical, didactic as well as organizational and legal issues. The conference was attended by people for whom the subject of modern metrology is important: industry workers dealing with metrology of industrial production processes, employees of measurement services, research and calibration laboratories, employees of research centres and universities. Papers on innovative industrial technologies and scientific research were particularly welcome.

The conference was under the honorary patronage of his Magnificence Rector of the Silesian University of Technology Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Arkadiusz Mężyk and the Polish Metrological Union. Scientific and institutional patronage was held by: The Central Office of Measures in Warsaw, the Metrology Commission of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Katowice, the Association of Polish Electrical Engineers, the Gliwice Branch, and the Mayor of Gliwice. Apart from the employees of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and other faculties of our University, the conference was attended by scientists from many other national centres: Lviv University of Technology, industry representatives and students implementing projects within the framework of Problem Based Learning (PBL).

The ceremonial opening session was led by the Chairman of the organizing Committee of the PPM’24 Conference, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Marian Kampik. The inaugural paper entitled “The omitted fragment of <De revolutionibus>, or about Copernicus atoms” was presented by Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Andrzej Zięba from the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow. After the solemn inauguration, the participants presented their works during a scientific session, and the day ended with a boat cruise on the Gliwice Canal. The second and third day of the Conference was a presentation of papers during four scientific sessions and a poster session, and the event integrating the Conference community was a solemn banquet at the Silvia Gold Hotel in Gliwice.
