XII International Scientific Conference "HealthTech Innovation Conference"
The 12th International Scientific Conference "HealthTech Innovation Conference" was held at the European HealthTech Innovation Centre (EHTIC) in Zabrze. The event is a place of integration and closer cooperation between biomedical engineers and representatives of medical centres in the field of innovative technologies applicable in medicine and sports.
As every year, the conference gathered over two hundred participants. The topics covered areas related to biomedical engineering, bioinformatics, biomechatronics, bioelectronics, biomaterials, medical robots, military technologies, engineering support for medical procedures, planning of sports training and rehabilitation.
– This is an international conference to which guests are invited not only from Poland, but also from abroad. The latest technologies developed for medicine are presented here. We discuss new solutions or issues that we should address. It is also a platform for exchanging experiences - said prof. Zbigniew Paszenda, dean of the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering.
The HealthTech Innovation Conference has been organized since 2012, previously under the name Silesian Biomedical Engineering. – The medical community is an inspiration for us. Doctors come to us with their problems, which we try to solve using the latest technological achievements. Later, in the next stage, we come back with our solutions to verify them with the medical community. Without this cooperation, it would be difficult to think about the progress and development of medicine. I think that in treatment rooms, 50% of the effectiveness of treatment depends on the achievements of technology - said Prof. Marek Gzik, director of the European HealthTech Innovation Centre (EHTIC) of the Silesian University of Technology.
Also, in the opinion of Professor Krzysztof Milewski, cardiologist, head of the Centre of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery in Bielsko-Biała, Polish-American Heart Clinics - American Heart of Poland, biomedical engineering is increasingly entering the world of medicine. – In every possible field - from advanced IT systems, through advanced medical devices for therapy and diagnosis. These include modern computed tomography, resonance imaging, intravascular imaging, and assessment of the physiology of coronary flow. These are elements that a doctor must master, but he must also receive support from engineers, the doctor emphasized.
The "HealthTech Innovation Conference" took place from October 9 to 10. The organizer of the conference was the European HealthTech Innovation Centre (EHTIC), and the event partner was the Silesian Voivodeship.
