World-famous sculptor Jerzy Kędziora at the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology
The 4th edition of the International Silesian Festival of Architecture, Art and Crafts has begun. The event, organized by the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology and the Student Science Club +Moduł, inaugurated the exhibition of Jerzy Kędziora's works. This year’s edition of the festival will last six months.
On Thursday, June 11th, the 4th International Silesian Festival of Architecture, Art and Crafts was inaugurated at the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology, an exhibition of works by a sculptor of international recognition - Jerzy Kędziora.
- Every year the festival has a different formula. This year it is the formula of champions. This year’s edition begins with the exhibition of Master Jerzy Kędziora, a world-class artist who performs sculpture all over the world: In New York, Dubai, Singapore, Venice, and many Polish cities. In addition, we also present throughout the Faculty building the works of students who have the opportunity to meet and talk to a world-renowned artist. I think that this inspiration will remain in them for a long time - said Dr Hab. Eng. Arch. Klaudiusz Fross, Prof. SUT, one of the organizers of the festival.

The first day of the festival events was marked by kinetic sculpture, about which the artist himself spoke in the following way:
- Kinetic sculpture is, in simple terms, a sculpture in motion. More specifically, it is a kind of mechanical movement. However, to describe my sculptures I use the name “balancing sculptures,” because their movement is limited, but it is a natural movement. The most important thing is that I structurally and exhibitively ripped them from the floor, from a hard plinth, and set them on a loose, usually rope-like construction – said the artist.
The festival is organized in cooperation with students of architecture and interior architecture, as well as teaching staff of the Faculty of Architecture. Students in creating the event have a lot of autonomy, while they work with the support of their tutors. In this way, the faculty community inspires one another in a creative way.

- Students can meet with the artist, talk, get to know his ideas, and understand the creative process. The exchange of thoughts is probably the most important thing in the didactic process. At the Faculty of Architecture, we also teach in the formula of various workshops, events, summer schools, together with people from outside the university who have different experiences, often international ones. Learning in this way is very valuable - said the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture Dr Hab. Eng. Arch. Tomasz Bradecki, Prof. SUT.
In the year of the jubilee of the 80th anniversary of the Silesian University of Technology, the event will last until December and will abound in many interesting and inspiring meetings.
- We initiated the Festival of Architecture, Arts and Crafts as a creative event, during which we want to show what we are passionate about, what we do in classes and share and inspire other people from our Faculty, University and other people visiting our festival. Since the second edition, the festival has been an international event. This year, the fourth edition of the festival coincides with the 80th anniversary of the Silesian University of Technology, which is why we decided to take a more extended form and plan the festival for six months, which gives us the opportunity to invite interesting personalities and institutions dealing with art - said Julia Wybraniec, one of the organizers of the Festival.

On Friday, June 13th, at the Faculty of Architecture in Katowice at 8 Zygmunta Krasińskiego Street, the workshop “Pyramid of Time – the beginnings of Architecture” will take place.
In October there will be a meeting with the Institute of Architecture Documentation, a workshop “Bauhaus Me” conducted by the IKAWA Science Club, an exhibition of sculptures inspired by Bauhaus art made by students. In November, however, a meeting with students “Beginnings in the Architect’s Profession,” workshops “Łukostrukcja” with a story about medieval arch constructions conducted by the ROCOCO Science Club.
December will be marked by inspiring meetings with an architect. There will be a story about inspirations, path, and beginnings in the profession of architect and Archi Walk through the building of the Faculty of Architecture entitled Our Architectural Orders.
