Wojciech Pszoniak Festival of Acting Art in Student Culture Centre “Mrowisko”
We invite you to the first edition of the Wojciech Pszoniak Festival of Acting Art - "Curtain up!". The festival will take place from the 6th to 8th of March 2026 in Gliwice. The organizer of the event is the Mrowisko Student Culture Centre and the Wojciech Pszoniak Foundation "Curtain up".
“Curtain up!” is a theatre festival, the main idea of which is to honour the achievements of an outstanding actor, an honorary citizen of Gliwice – Wojciech Pszoniak, and thus, to present performances and monodramas, which are appreciated by viewers and critics, at the centre of which is the art of acting. The first edition will focus on a small theatrical form – monodrama – the greatest challenge for an actor on stage. Referring to the unforgettable creations of the festival’s patron and the actor’s ethos, the master of theatrical metamorphosis, we invited artists for whom gesture, word, or words, are the most important to us. The quality, emotions and stage truth are at the heart of artistic challenges.
The accompanying event will be a performative reading of Kathrine Kressman Taylor’s play “Recipient Unknown” in Wojciech Pszoniak’ s adaptation, which the actor made at the Polish Radio Theatre – with special participation of Olgierd Łukaszewicz and Robert Więckiewicz, and an author’s meeting with Małgorzata Terlecka-Reksnis devoted to the biographical book “Wojciech Pszoniak. Fragments,” in which Barbara Pszoniak and Olgierd Łukaszewicz will take part. During the festival you will also see an exhibition of Wojciech Pszoniak’ s photographs in the biggest film and theatre roles.

An exhibition of photographs presenting the theatrical roles of Wojciech Pszoniak
During the whole festival, we invite you to a cross-section exhibition presenting archival theatre photographs, capturing in frames the greatest roles of Wojciech Pszoniak from performances by Konrad Swinarski, Andrzej Wajda, Jerzy Jarocki, Adam Hanuszkiewicz, Izabella Cywińska, Maciej Englert, Zygmunt Hübner.
