Welcome to the Book Week in the European City of Science

The Book Week, another of 50 weeks in the City of Science has begun. The event takes place as part of the celebrations of the European City of Science Katowice 2024 and will last until May 12th.

The Book Week will last from May 6th to 12th. The curator of the week is Dr Anna Machwic from the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice. The schedule includes meetings with authors, exhibitions, and debates on how books are created, how photo books are prepared, and how to reach readers with special needs.

There will also be an opportunity to learn about the previously unknown collections of libraries in the region.

Among the proposals of the events within the European City of Science there is an exhibition presenting technical literature collected since the beginning of the Library of the Silesian University of Technology. The opening is scheduled for 7th May at 11 a.m.

The most interesting standards and patents will be presented, as well as books and magazines that formed the basis of collections in the 40s and 50s. The first publications by the Silesian University of Technology will also be shown. On the example of selected publications, the history of creating a collection of technical literature, which is the basis of the scientific activity of the Silesian University of Technology, will be presented.

The exhibition can be seen in the Library building on the day of the presentation, as well as online on the Library website during the entire Book Week. Link to the exhibition:
