Visit of the Georgian Aviation University delegation at the Silesian University of Technology

On the 17th –19th of February 2026, a visit of the Georgian Aviation University delegation took place at the Silesian University of Technology. The aim of the meeting was to exchange experiences in the areas of scientific research and education, with particular emphasis on civil aviation. The delegation was chaired by the vice-rector of the Georgian university - Prof. Davit Tepnadze. The guests got acquainted with the scientific teaching facilities of the Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering and the activities of the Civil Aviation Personnel Training Centre of Central and Eastern Europe.

On the first day, the guests visited the hangars of the Academic Aviation Training Centre (ATO POLSL), where the fleet of training aircraft and facilities for aircraft maintenance were presented. Then there was a meeting with Prof. Dr. Hab. Eng. Sebastian Werle, Vice-Rector for Science, and international Cooperation. The talks concerned, among others, the field of Aviation and Space Engineering. During the presentation, it was emphasized that Aviation and Space Engineering is a university-wide field of studies, implemented in cooperation of several faculties (including the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering, Faculty of Energy and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science and Faculty of Materials Engineering and Industry Digitization). The meeting was also attended by Dr Hab. Eng. Marcin Adamiak, Prof. SUT – Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, who discussed the paths and specialisations offered as part of the first- and second-degree studies in this field and their interdisciplinary character. The next item was the presentation of the Faculty of Energy and Environmental Engineering. Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Sławomir Dykas presented research facilities in the field of thermodynamics and aircraft engines.

The next part of the meetings took place at the headquarters of the Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering in Katowice ( 8, Krasińskiego Street) , where the guests got acquainted with the scientific didactic base of the faculty and participated in demonstration activities using the air traffic control simulator as part of the Academic Training Centre for Air Traffic Services Personnel (AOSSRL). There was also a meeting with the faculty authorities and representatives of Civil Aviation Personnel Training Centre of Central and Eastern Europe.

During the meeting Dr Hab. Eng. Grzegorz Sierpiński, Prof. SUT – Dean of the Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering, presented the profile of the unit and the most important scientific achievements. In turn Prof. Dr Hab. Aleksander Sładkowski – Rector’s Plenipotentiary for Cooperation with the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia discussed the principles of student exchange. Then Dr Hab. Eng. Pil. Jarosław Kozuba, Prof. SUT, The Director of Civil Aviation Personnel Training Centre of Central and Eastern Europe presented the system and scope of aviation training conducted at the Silesian University of Technology, and Dr Hab. Eng. Damian Hadryś, Prof. SUT, the Vice-Dean for Student Affairs and Education of the Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering presented details of the specializations carried out in the field of Transport and discussed the paths of double diploma.

Representatives of Georgian Aviation University discussed the offer of aviation education and specialisations and presented scientific achievements of the university. The Dean - Prof. Vazha Kelikhashvili also presented aviation equipment and development activities carried out under the MCC grant “Development of vocational training programs in Georgian civil aviation.”

The result of the meeting was the development of a cooperation plan including, among others, training of pilots, aircraft mechanics, air traffic controllers, and aviation logistics specialists.

Both sides also indicated that the target effect of the cooperation will be the launch of a double diploma program. The delegation of Georgian Aviation University also expressed interest in participating in the Faculty Conference “Transport Problems” and the possibility of creating a joint research consortium.
