Visit of Fujitsu representatives at Silesian University of Technology

From 8th to 9th April 2024, representatives of Fujitsu were hosted at the Silesian University of Technology. The aim of the visit was, among others, to detail cooperation in the field of innovative activities related to the implementation of the assumptions of the World Sustainable Development Agenda 2030.

Fujitsu’s main strategic priority is to create and implement new solutions to achieve the goals of the World Sustainable Development Agenda, from local to global. The company is one of the world leaders in the development of digital technologies, covering all levels of applications, from embedded technologies to the highest level of computing systems and artificial intelligence solutions.

The Silesian University of Technology is in talks with Fujitsu on joint innovative activities, including: A program for creating, implementing and jointly building the offer of reference system solutions related to the implementation of the World Sustainable Development Agenda 2030, as well as a program for joint development of new application solutions in the field of computational design of advanced functional materials and their experimental validation.

The purpose of the visit of Fujitsu representatives was to detail the program of activities in this area and to establish a framework plan of undertakings for the implementation of this program as a joint offer for the digital transformation of Silesia.

The first day of the visit, which was held by the European HealthTech Innovation Centre (EHTIC), was devoted to computational modelling and its selected industrial and biomedical applications. The second day of the visit concerned issues of the digital transformation of Silesia in terms of transport, logistics and the development of intelligent ecosystems. The meeting and talks, which took place in the Senate Hall of the Silesian University of Technology, in addition to the guests from Fujitsu, were attended by:

 - Marta Jarno, Director of the Analysis Department, Ministry of Industry,
 - Celina Zawiślak, Department of European Funds and Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Industry,
 - Dr Hab. Eng. Aleksander Sobota, prof. SUT, Deputy Director for Transport, Metropolitan Transport Management Board,
 - Norbert Henzel, Vice President of the Management Board, The Upper Silesian Aviation Group SA,
 - Mariusz Kuczek, Cargo Specialist, The Upper Silesian Aviation Group S.A.
 - Dr Hab. Eng. Grzegorz Sierpiński, prof. SUT,  (Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering)
 - Dr Hab. Eng. Grzegorz Karoń, prof. SUT ( Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering).

During the meeting, the vision and plans of the emerging Centre of Technology and Computational Sciences of the Silesian University of Technology were also presented. The Centre aims to become a leading centre for the development of innovative solutions and technologies and to address the leading challenges of the transformation of industry, the environment, the entire economy, and social life.
