Tradition for fans of cars and motorcycles
On the 26th of March at the Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology in Katowice a meeting was organized for automotive fans “Cars and motorcycles at the Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology – several decades of tradition”. The auditorium was filled with students and secondary school pupils, and the event was also actively attended by graduates of the Faculty.
- “We wanted to remind you of the long tradition of education at our Faculty. It has been 56 years without a break.” - says Dr Eng. Zbigniew Stanik, Prof. SUT, the organizer of the event, who also presented the didactic offer of the Department of Road Transport.
- “The cars were, are and will be. The same goes for our teaching in Katowice. We deal not only with the science of using motor vehicles, but also, among others, issues related to forwarding or motor transport insurance.” - he added.
The event was attended by, among others, the Vice-Dean for Science and Cooperation at the Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering Dr Hab. Eng. Andrzej Kubik, Prof. SUT and the Head of the Department of Road Transport Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Bogusław Łazarz.
- “Graduates of the Faculty are our greatest pride and business card. We are glad that they attend this event as representatives of important companies in the automotive industry. The scope of our education is so wide that graduates are able to adapt to various challenges. We try to prepare them so that their professional career is open to them” – explains Prof. Łazarz.

Participants of the event could listen to lectures, among others, by Vice-Dean Andrzej Kubik (“CAN network in motor vehicles”) and a graduate of the Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering, MSc. Grzegorz Galant, electronics engineer in the quality department of ZF Braking System Gliwice.
- “Studies at the Silesian University of Technology gave me a very important basis in various areas of automotive industry, which helps me in my current professional life. There was a lot of training during the studies. Prof. Zbigniew Stanik helped a lot in the fact that me and my colleagues could visit various companies and gain experience. In addition, my activity in the Silesia Automotive Student Club helped me enormously. I gained there a lot of knowledge concerning, among others, electrical systems” - explains Grzegorz Galant, who gave a lecture entitled "Modern braking systems used in motor vehicles". He talked about “brake by wire” technology, i.e. electronically controlled brakes. – “It is already used in light commercial vehicles. It has many benefits, such as shorter braking distance, lower installation costs and fewer components.”

The main objective of the meeting was to promote technical knowledge about motor vehicles and motorcycles. The presentation of Honda motorcycles from the JKK MOTO showroom, Toyota Mirai cars powered by hydrogen from the Toyota Katowice showroom and a demonstration of modern workshop equipment from Texa and Italcom companies accompanied the meeting. Students and pupils were eager to check on, among others, the Honda motorcycle from the Africa Twin series.
It is a legend among motorcycles. This model has won the Paris-Dakar rally several times and is designed to drive in the desert – explains Prof. Stanik. – We have prepared a program with a view to allowing participants to learn something interesting. I am glad that our graduates were so happy to help organize the meeting.
