The winners of the “Chemical Crystal" competition have been selected
We have learned the winners of the first edition of the "Chemical Crystal" competition, organized by the Student Scientific Club of Chemists in cooperation with the Student Self-Government of the Faculty of Chemistry and the Science Popularization Centre.
- All students of the Silesian University of Technology could participate in the competition and submit their works in two categories: “The largest crystal" and "The most beautiful crystal" - explains Anna Byczek-Wyrostek, M.Sc. - The challenge for our participants was one of the assumptions of the competition, namely that all works had to be "produced" from commercially available non-toxic chemicals. Fortunately, everyone managed to do it and the effect was often very spectacular.
- After receiving several messages from employees of the Silesian University of Technology, we plan to expand the group of participants in subsequent editions - says Anna Byczek-Wyrostek, M.Sc. - Additionally, we will want to introduce additional categories, for example the crystal with the most interesting history. In the current edition, one of the students delivered a slightly damaged crystal because it was partially eaten by his... cat. We hope that the next edition of the competition will be even more popular.

- In the "Most Beautiful Crystal" category, a distinction was also awarded to Mr. Maciej Gdala and his cat, which also received a small gift from us - says Anna Byczek-Wyrostek, M.Sc.
