On Saturday, September 7th, at the invitation of the Council of Seniors of the City of Gliwice, the Volunteer Centre of the Silesian University of Technology participated in the Family Senior Picnic announcing the Gliwice Senior Days.
Seniors are a very large and exceptionally active group of inhabitants of Gliwice. That is why the city, among other things, by organizing various activities, tries to provide them with the best conditions for meetings, development, and leisure – reads the website of the City Hall in Gliwice. The Silesian University of Technology Volunteer Centre supports these activities, among others thanks to the work of volunteers – students and employees of the University.
Gliwice Senior Days is an important event, the aim of which is to integrate and create conditions for activation and joint spending time for Gliwice seniors. The needs and expectations in this regard are high and are constantly growing. It is also planned to establish the Senior Council of the Polytechnic District.
– Our intention is to appoint the Senior Council at the Polytechnic district. The idea for wider cooperation with the university was born as a result of meetings and joint activities carried out in cooperation with the Volunteer Centre. We are counting on interesting ideas involving seniors, but also important for our city – says Czesława Bela from the Council of Seniors of the City of Gliwice.
Members of the Council do not hide that they are very counting on the use of the potential of the Silesian University of Technology. The help of volunteers will be very important. Many of our seniors are lonely people, for whom the very company of other people brings a lot of joy – adds Czesława Bela.
