The three-time High Flyers podium in the Droniada Challenge

High Flyers did not disappoint as usual. In the 12th edition of the Droniada Challenge, which was held for the first time at the airport in Gliwice, our students stood on the podium in as many as three competitions.

Droniada Challenge is a technological competition combining computer science, mechatronics, and robotics with aviation. Scenarios in individual competitions are based on situations that can happen in reality, in which drones can provide real support to people.

This year, the High Flyers won the Demo System competition, took second place in the Relay Race, as well as third place in the Martian Mines.

In the System Demo, participants had to prepare a film presenting the team and the concept of competition implementation and convince the organizer that the presented unmanned and autonomous systems can safely perform the assumed tasks.

The High Flyers film collected the most likes on the web, which allowed them to win. This shows how many people keep their fingers crossed for our talented students.

- “Behind us are intensive days filled with technology, challenges, and cooperation. We would like to say “thank you” to everyone who supported us – the team, mentors, organizers, and everyone who kept their fingers crossed for us! - the High Flyers players write.

In the Relay Race, the task of the teams was to build a buffer zone between the zone contaminated with CBRN threats (chemical, biological, radiation, nuclear and explosion-related) and the clean zone using drones. “Mars Mines” is a competition that tested the competences of students in remote sensing, machine learning, control of flying robots in automatic mode.

- “High Flyers have been taking part in Droniada for ever and further successes are very important to us” - says Dr Eng Roman Czyba, Prof. SUT, supervisor of The High Flyers Club.

- “There are two priority trips ahead of us this year. In the near future, as part of the ministerial program, we are flying to the United States for an international competition, and in the autumn, we are flying to Mexico. This will be a great opportunity to gather experience.”
