The third place for students of the Silesian University of Technology at the Porsche competition in Prague

Success for students from the Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science. The ‘Silesian Wizards’ team composed of: Oliwia Prudzic, Natalia Bartosiak, Adam Herman, Krzysztof Hanusek took the 3rd place in the international Porsche Engineering Student Contest 2022, held in Prague.

The grand prize was a paid internship; our students came 3rd and were offered an internship, after an additional interview. Adam Herman took up the offer and got in.

The mere qualification for the competition is a great honour, as only 30 people out of all the applicants have the chance to take part.

The basic task of the participants in the competition was to programme an autonomous vehicle to stay in the designated lanes under different conditions. ‘Students propose solutions to the problem of fast and safe autonomous driving on the track, which are then verified and evaluated in two races. Finally, the results must be presented in front of a jury. These three components determine the final outcome of the competition,’ explained prof. Damian Grzechca, supervisor of the PBL group in which the awarded students work.

Six teams from Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany took part in the competition. The Silesian Wizards team from the Silesian University of Technology took third place. The team consists of: Natalia Bartosiak, Oliwia Prudzic, Adam Herman and Krzysztof Hanusek. They all study automation and robotics at the Faculty of Automatics, Electronics and Computer Science. They are also pursuing a PBL project at our University entitled ‘Automatic charging of an AGV platform with the use of renewable energy sources’ under the supervision of prof. Damian Grzechca, prof. Adam Ziębiński, and Witold Ilewicz, PhD.

‘Participation in the competition was an initiative of the students, who - in this way - wanted to verify their skills and knowledge gained both during their studies and in the PBL project,’ summarised prof. Damian Grzechca.
