The success of students of the Silesian University of Technology in the architectural competition

Aleksandra Chylak, Dorota Cichoń and Oliwia Jagła, students of the second semester of master’s studies at the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology, became finalists of the prestigious international architectural competition Tiny House 2024.

Tiny House 2024 is a competition organized by Volume Zero Competitions. Out of hundreds of applications from all over the world, the WindBerg project of our University’s students was among the Top 50 Best Works.

- “What's more, we are the only Polish team.” – explains the finalists of Tiny House 2024. – “We prepared the project fully independently as an additional initiative outside university classes – from concept to graphic design. Our achievement was also noticed in industry media – the project was published by the “Architektura&Biznes” portal. We feel gratitude, but also motivation for further creative development. This success shows that sensitivity to context, sustainable design and bold ideas can be recognized internationally.”

The WindBerg project is a response to the challenge of creating a small house that not only functions in the extreme conditions of Iceland, but also harmoniously fits into its unusual, wild landscape.

-” The inspiration came from sculptural forms of glaciers, the organic fluidity of nature and the need for flexibility in the modern lifestyle. The structure we designed is based on a modular, mobile system that allows residents to freely configure space – both on land and on water. As a result, the home becomes dynamic, adaptable, and deeply personalized. In the project, we combined modern solutions of sustainable construction with minimalist aesthetics, aiming to create a space that promotes closeness to nature, while at the same time supporting a responsible, ecological lifestyle” - the authors of the project explain.
