The 2024 IGRY GAMES have begun.

The biggest student festival of Silesian University of Technology is just under way. The highlight was Thursday’s March of the colourful procession through the streets of Gliwice.

Students of the Silesian University of Technology have been waiting for these few days of the year since October. Igry Games every year are a great opportunity to play together and recharge batteries, which will be useful in the exam session.

- “We have been preparing for this celebration. You can see it in our costumes. As befits an engineer, I designed a car, it even has wheels and drives – Krzysztof Kocot MSc Eng, one of the participants of the procession, dressed au as a car, told us.

Before the students set out on the streets of the city, the keys to the gates of Gliwice were handed to them by the Mayor of the City Katarzyna Kuczyńska-Budka in the company of the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology – Prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk and Rector-Elect Prof. Marek Pawełczyk.

- I used to live in Zwycięstwa Street and from the balcony I watched students of the Silesian University of Technology march through the streets of the city. Even as a child, I loved watching it. Although later I was a student of the University of Silesia, I was still happy to participate in these events as a resident of Gliwice – recalled the president of Gliwice and added that she wants the city to be still friendly to students so that young people would want to stay here also after studies to work and develop the city.

Prof Marek Pawełczyk also shared his memories from the time of the Games.

“From my time at the University, I remember that IGRY GAMES were much longer. We started the celebration on Wednesday, and Thursday and Friday were already free from classes. Although we did not have such infrastructure and opportunities as today, we had just as much fun – recalled the Rector-Elect.

Prof. Marek Gzik, Deputy Minister of Science, also wished students a lot of fun yesterday.

“I was one of the exemplary students, but what I remember the most is not only learning time, but also free time, including IGRY GAMES. Let us not forget that after a well-worked day or semester, a person also needs to rest – added Professor Gzik.
