The Silesian University of Technology signed a cooperation agreement with Materials Design
The Silesian University of Technology has established cooperation with Materials Design company. It is a company that develops software and provides services in the field of materials research. The agreement was signed on Wednesday, June 12th.
The cooperation agreement was signed by Prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk, the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology and Dr Erich Wimmer, co-founder and scientific director of Materials Design.
- “The cooperation with Materials Design is an ennoblement for our University, because its software for modelling materials at the molecular level is basically the best in the world. This is part of the development of the University and our research areas.” - says Prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk, Rector of the Silesian University of Technology.
Before signing the agreement, Dr Erich Wimmer delivered a lecture at the Education and Congress Centre entitled “Multiscale material modelling in the era of machine learning.” At the end of the lecture, he also answered questions from the participants.
- “Establishing this cooperation is very important for us. We are planning a future investment, which is the launch of the Centre of Technology and Computational Sciences in Katowice, which will provide us with a modern IT infrastructure in the field of processing large amounts of data. To develop this place, we will need ideas and partners, such as Materials Design” - explains Prof. Marek Pawełczyk, Rector-Elect of the Silesian University of Technology.
Dr Erich Wimmer is the author and co-author of more than 130 scientific publications and book contributions, and at Materials Design he leads a team that has completed more than one hundred major research projects for industrial clients.
- “It is a world leader in the field of software for the design and synthesis of new materials, which are the basis for the development of the entire industry” - says Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Marek Niezgódka. “We want this cooperation to become the seed of the development of joint ventures for the transformation of the Silesian industry and the offer of completely new materials for the industry based on the raw materials that Poland has at its disposal.”
