The Silesian University of Technology has started cooperation with university in India
The Silesian University of Technology has signed a letter of intent with Marathwada Mitramandal, Pune, India, initiating talks on establishing cooperation. Marathwada Mitramandal is the focal point of a network of educational institutions, including colleges, centres, academies, and schools, which have been providing excellent education in Maharashtra for 55 years, enrolling over 600,000 students annually.
The agreement was signed on June 26th, 2026, by Prof. Anna Chrobok, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Education at the Silesian University of Technology, B. G. Jadhav, President of Marathawada Mitramandal, and Prof. Dr. Pradeep Kumar, President of Indo-European Education Foundation.
– Signing a letter of intent with the Indo-European Education Foundation and Marathwada Mitra Mandal is an important step towards the internationalization of our University and building lasting relationships with partners from India – one of the fastest developing countries in the world. We see great potential for cooperation in both research and education – Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Education Silesian University of Technology Prof. Anna Chrobok.
As the Vice-Rector emphasizes, international cooperation is not only about the exchange of experiences, but also an opportunity to develop new scientific and teaching initiatives.
– We are convinced that this cooperation will bring mutual benefits. For our University, it means, above all, the opportunity to develop international contacts, exchange experiences, implement innovative research projects and increase the attractiveness of our teaching offer. It is also an opportunity to better prepare our students to function in a global academic and professional environment - emphasizes Prof. Anna Chrobok.
Both universities hope to develop joint research and launch a student exchange program.
– We came to the Silesian University of Technology to see how we can cooperate. We see this University as a leader in modern education and believe that with its support we will be able to develop our research even better, said the President of Marathwada Mitramandal, B.G Jadhav.
The President of the Indo-European Education Foundation, Prof. Dr. Pradeep Kumar, has been involved in developing cooperation between Polish and Indian universities for years. As he emphasizes, the signed agreement creates broad opportunities for scientific and educational cooperation.
– We want to launch student exchange programs, joint research, and initiatives such as double degree programs and recruitment for doctoral studies as soon as possible. We also want to support students from India who would like to continue their studies at the Silesian University of Technology, said Prof. Dr. Pradeep Kumar.
The initiative to cooperate with the Indian university was born during a meeting of representatives of the EURECA-PRO project partner universities at the German Hochschule Mittweida, University of Applied Sciences.
- It was there that representatives of the Silesian University of Technology established contact with Prof. Kumar – founder and president of the foundation promoting European-Indian cooperation. A few days later, a delegation from India visited the Silesian University of Technology, and the visit culminated in the signing of a letter of intent – says the Head of the International Cooperation Department at the Silesian University of Technology, Dr. Eng. Grzegorz Kłapyta.
The document expresses the will to develop cooperation in such areas as educating students and doctoral students, conducting joint scientific research, academic exchange of students and staff, and organizing short, certified programs. The next step will be to develop and sign a framework agreement (MoU) that will define the detailed terms of cooperation.
– This is an opportunity to establish cooperation with a dynamically developing country and a strong academic partner. The university from Pune is similar in many respects to the Silesian University of Technology, combining scientific activity with practical implementation of research results and close cooperation with industry. We see the potential for joint activities both in the area of research, education, and academic exchange – emphasizes Dr Eng. Kłapyta.
The importance of cooperation from a scientific perspective is also highlighted by Dr Hab. Eng. Sebastian Student, Prof. SUT, Director of the Biotechnology Centre at the Silesian University of Technology.
– We see many opportunities for cooperation, primarily in the areas of organic chemistry, bioinformatics, and molecular biology. These are the areas that are particularly interesting to us and have great potential for joint research, says Prof. Student.
As he emphasizes, developing international contacts is today an integral part of conducting modern scientific research.
– International cooperation is very important. We are also currently implementing project activities with partners from African countries, so we know perfectly well how valuable it is to exchange experiences and carry out research together. Especially in biology, which is developing very dynamically, cooperation with foreign research centres creates new development opportunities for both scientists and students, he emphasized.
The signed document is a letter of intent, but it sets the direction for further talks aimed at preparing a formal cooperation agreement.
