The Silesian University of Technology as Promoter of Ecology - at the Municipal Botanical Garden in Zabrze

The Silesian University of Technology as a Promoter of Ecology – our University will present itself under this motto at the Flower Festival at the Municipal Botanic Garden in Zabrze. The two-day event will begin on Saturday.

‘The exhibition is unusual. It presents the activities of the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology in the field of promoting ecology and sustainable development in the sphere of design activity, campus space, course and diploma projects, but also in the private passions of its teaching staff. A significant part of the presented material consists of works by employees of the Department of Housing and Public Architecture Design,’ said prof. Tomasz Wagner.

He added that an unquestionable asset of the exhibition were the photographs of the fauna and flora of the academic district taken by Jakub Czarnecki, PhD - architect, academic teacher and photographer.

Numerous student projects presented at the exhibition include subjects realised in cooperation with the socio-economic environment - from private ones (such as the Marina Gliwice) to the municipalities of Upper Silesia (e.g. Bytom, Ożarowice). Projects by faculty members include the revitalisation of the post-zinc tailings pile in Wirek by prof. Krzysztof Rostański.

The exhibition also include examples of biodiverse, insect- and bird-friendly plantings at the European HealthTech Innovation Centre (EHTIC) in Zabrze, a flower meadow at the "Karlik" dormitory in Gliwice and many other interesting projects.

‘I hope that this multi-faceted presentation of the activities of a group of architects from the Silesian University of Technology will show the guests of the Flower Festival the University in a new, even more interesting light than before,’ emphasised prof. Tomasz Wagner.
