The Silesian Graduate Salon began at the Silesian University of Technology

At the Silesian University of Technology, the Silesian Graduate Salon is being held. For secondary school pupils, it is an excellent opportunity to learn about the educational offer of dozens of universities from all over Poland. The event takes place on the 28th and 29th of September at the Educational and Congress Centre of the Silesian University of Technology.

The 20th  edition of the Graduate Salon takes place this year in 15 cities. The Silesian University of Technology is the host of the event, which is one of the last stops on the route of the National Information Campaign of the Graduate Salon “Perspektywy 2026”. The Rector of the Silesian University of Technology Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Marek Pawelczyk, Vice-Rector for General Affairs Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. - The presence of so many candidates from all over the country is extremely important to us. We are glad that they come to the Silesian University of Technology, perhaps also encouraged by the opinions of their predecessors, who have found that it is worth taking an interest in our University. Such a large group of secondary school graduates are people who have many questions and can meet representatives of various faculties during the Salon, as well as visit our campus – explains Rector Marek Pawełczyk. – We would like to present first of all a unique approach to education and show candidates that the Silesian University of Technology is a university open to change. Our study program is extremely flexible and allows students to build their own learning path to a large extent. They can also engage in projects implemented in cooperation with industry, participate in international projects, use a wide range of elective courses, or cooperate directly with scientists.

- Studying in Gliwice is definitely worth it! This city is developing fantastically and has a lot to offer to young people. That is why it is worth choosing Gliwice and it is worth choosing the Silesian University of Technology, because it is a fantastic university – said Katarzyna Kuczyńska-Budka, Mayor of the City of Gliwice during the opening of the event.

For many young people, this is the first opportunity in their lives to visit the university campus and talk to representatives of universities.

– We want to present our didactic offer, which we update every year. We want our graduates to be well prepared to enter the labour market and to be able to find employment in their professions. Therefore, issues related to artificial intelligence play an increasingly important role in education, which is becoming a common tool used both in science and education, as well as in professional work. This applies not only to students of courses directly related to artificial intelligence. Everyone should know the possibilities of its use and learn to consciously use this tool in future work - explains Vice-Rector Anna Chrobok. – In addition, people who are not yet sure of their choice will find a space to get to know the University better and decide in which direction they want to develop. We want to help young people make an informed decision. Therefore, in selected fields of study after the first year, it is possible to move to another field of study, without the need to supplement the program differences.

Participants have the opportunity to listen to the presentation of university offers from all over Poland, meet with experts of the District Examination Board to talk about matriculation exams, as well as take part in workshops.

- This is a very important day for us because we can get to know universities more closely and ask representatives many questions. If someone has no idea what course of study to choose, then such an event really opens their eyes and shows what opportunities are on the market. Thanks to this, it is easier to make a decision and plan a further route - explained Karolina, Anna and Emilia, students of the School Complex No. 1 named after Gustaw Morcinek in Tychy.

The stands of various Faculties of the Silesian University of Technology are also very popular among pupils. Their representatives present numerous inventions and talk about the implemented projects.

– We present to visitors our two fields of study: Biomedical engineering and a new field – engineering technologies in forensics – says Dr Eng. Maria Bieńkowska from the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology. We also want to show pupils what the work of an engineer looks like in real life. That is why we have prepared a laparoscopic trainer that allows one to see what the challenges of minimally invasive operations are and what role engineers can play in this area. We also carry a suitcase used by forensic technologists when working on the crime scene.
