The Silesian Climate Centre will be established
Silesian University of Technology became a partner in the project Silesian Climate Centre – Stage I, implemented within the framework of the European Funds for Silesia 2021-2027, thanks to which the Silesian Climate Centre will be established in the region (FESL.02 European Funds for Green Development, FESL.02.17 Action Building awareness for Climate).

Value of the project/funding:
The total value of the project is 8 000 019.12 PLN.
The total eligible expenditure of the project is PLN 8 000 019.12:
· co-financing from European funds in the amount of PLN 6 800 016.25, which constitutes 85% of the total eligible expenditure of the project,
· own contribution in the amount of PLN 1 200 002.87, which is 15% of the total eligible expenditure of the project.
Target group:
The project was addressed in particular to all residents and local government units from the area of the Silesian Voivodeship.
Objectives of the project:
The main objective of the project is to create the Silesian Climate Centre (ŚCK) – a regional centre for the development of competences and knowledge in the field of adaptation to climate change. The ŚCK will be a permanent tool supporting local government units (JST) and residents of the Silesian Voivodeship in taking actions to build climate resilience, in accordance with the priorities set out in the “Śląskie 2030 – Zielone Śląskie” Voivodeship Development Strategy and in the Regional Climate Change Adaptation Plan (RPA) – the first document of this type in the country – developed by the Silesian Voivodeship.
Project description
ŚCK will be a permanent tool supporting local governments and residents of the voivodship in building climate resilience, in accordance with the priorities of the Regional Adaptation Plan (RPA) and the Strategy “Śląskie 2030 – Zielone Śląskie”.
Key assumptions and actions:
· A series of specialist workshops for local government units, organized for four subregions of the voivodship.
· Information and educational campaign “Silesian Voivodship for the climate”
· Mobile Point of climate education.
· The “Regional Climate Knowledge Base” portal.
· Study visits and exchange of experiences.
· Demonstration infrastructure
Effects
The implementation of the project will contribute to:
· Increase the competence and knowledge of local government units in the field of adaptation to climate change.
· Raising the level of climate awareness of the inhabitants of the Silesian Voivodeship.
· Better prepare municipalities and cities to respond to the effects of extreme events such as heat waves, droughts, and heavy rainfall.
· Popularization of modern and environmentally friendly adaptation solutions, including those based on nature.
· Building a network of science-local government-society cooperation.
· Creating a sustainable system of educational and information support in the area of climate policy of the region.
