On the 11th of September, the 2nd Scientific Conference of the best scientists in the world – TOP 2% took place at the Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology. 47 scientists from universities and institutes in Katowice and the Silesian region who are among the 2% of the most cited scientists in the world, expressed their active interest in the conference.
The conference was held under the honorary patronage of the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Marek Pawełczyk, Mayor of the City of Katowice Dr Marcin Krupa, as well as the Polish Academy of Sciences, Katowice Branch, whose president is Prof. Dr Hab. in Medical Sciences Andrzej Wiecek. The opening of the event was attended by, among others the Vice Rector for Collaboration with Civic and Economic Environment at SUT, Dr Hab. Eng. Marcin Staniek, Prof. SUT and Vice-Rector for General Affairs Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Bożena Skołud.
- This is the prestige of a scientist, which means that their research is important at the present time and that many people reach for the results of these studies, - said the Vice-Rector Bożena Skołud. - It is also a promotion of the university. If young persons are looking for a university for themselves, they often check the rankings. If they see that there are top scientists, the best in the world, it is worth to look at this university, study there, shape their future there. It is a celebration of science and of those people who improve the quality of science and the whole environment.
