The second day of the meeting during the Science Days at the Silesian University of Technology
Presentation of the next Priority Research Areas and the 19th National Conference of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering and the 8th National Conference of Young Geotechnicians - the last day of the Science Days held at the Silesian University of Technology is behind us. The event was accompanied by Open Days of Laboratories.
Science Days were held from 4th to 5th of July. The aim of this event was to present the achievements and scientific potential in six Priority Research Areas. Science Days are addressed to scientists, students and representatives of the socio-economic environment. The conference was also attended by outstanding scientists from abroad with the status of Highly Cited Researchers and winners of ERC grants.
- Science Days is an event that we are organizing for the first time, and I think that it will be a conference that will become a permanent fixture in the calendar of our activities. The event is an opportunity to review our activities in the area of six Priority Research Areas that we have defined at our University - said during the inauguration of the second day of the event, the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk.

On the first day of the conference, research conducted in three research areas was presented: POB1 - Computational Oncology and Personalized Medicine, POB2 - Artificial Intelligence and Data Processing and POB3 - Materials of the Future. Earlier, a lecture "Is science important?", by prof. Seeram Ramakrishna - an outstanding scientist currently working at the National University of Singapore (National University of Singapore) with the current status of Highly Cited Researcher was delivered.
“The first day was full of events. In addition to those in the hall of the Educational and Congress Centre, those that took place in the lobby and at more individual meetings were important. I noticed that our employees and doctoral students wanted to make the most of our guests' visit and invited them to their laboratories, presented themselves and offered cooperation opportunities, which our guests were very interested in - said Vice-Rector for Science and Development, prof. Marek Pawełczyk.

On the second day of the conference, the following Priority Research Areas were presented: POB4 - Smart cities and mobility of the future, POB5 - Process automation and Industry 4.0. and POB6 - Climate and Environment Protection, Modern Energy.
The accompanying event was the 19th National Conference of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering and the 8th National Conference of Young Geotechnicians. – The subject of this conference are the current issues of geotechnics. These are cyclical conferences that take place in different places every 2 years. The Department of Geotechnics and Roads of the Silesian University of Technology is organizing this conference after 20 years - said the dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, prof. Joanna Bzówka.
The conference was attended by geotechnicians from all research centres, technical universities and universities. - There are also young geotechnicians among us, i.e., people who are before or just after defending their doctoral thesis - said prof. Bzówka.
The conference is a forum for the exchange of knowledge between scientists, PhD students, experts, representatives of industry, geotechnical and geoengineering companies.
