The next stage of the “Universities of the future” project has been launched
On April the 30th, at the Student Activity Centre of the Silesian University of Technology, a meeting was held inaugurating the project “Universities of the future”. Participation in it is an opportunity for students to implement their own research ideas and create original technological solutions, which in the future can be patented and implemented into business activities. The project is financed by the National Centre for Research and Development.
Topics of projects submitted by students of the Silesian University of Technology concern, among others, polymer recycling, 3D printing, engines, drones, health protection and water pollution.
- “The project aims to implement an innovative Model of Personalized Education within the study programs. The Personalized Education Model is based on individual innovative projects and is implemented at universities that are project partners. It also develops the key competences of students and enables linking education with the socio-economic environment through the involvement of business mentors” – explains Professor Beata Orlińska, director of the College of Studies of the Silesian University of Technology.
The process of recruitment of students for the project takes place at 12 partner universities. From each of them, 10 students will qualify to implement the project and receive a scholarship of PLN 20 000.
Currently, after two stages of recruitment including formal assessment, substantive assessment (stage I) and Assessment Centre evaluation conducted by an external entity selected by the NCBR (stage II), 10 students of the Silesian University of Technology have qualified to participate in the project.
- “In June, students will have to defend the project for the Business Team of Innovative Education, which includes representatives of the socio-economic environment, and it is he who approves the project for implementation.” - adds Prof. Orlińska.
The preparation of students for defence will take place at weekly away workshops organized by the NCBR, and then at workshops organized at the University. These will be both training in the preparation of project proposals, searching for application applications, and self-presentation.
Participation in the project gives the opportunity to:
- Implement an innovative project;
- Gain ECTS credits, which after verification of the acquired learning outcomes, will be counted toward the education program in a given field of study;
- Receive a scholarship of up to PLN 20 000;
- Participate in the workshops and micro-courses.
The individual Innovative Project will be implemented with the support of a supervisor from the Silesian University of Technology, a scientific mentor and a representative of the socio-economic environment acting as a business mentor. The duration of the project is a maximum of two semesters.
