The modern AIUT Laboratory is now open

The Autonomous Mobile Robots Laboratory created in cooperation with AIUT was opened at the Silesian University of Technology. It is a modern laboratory where practical classes with company representatives will be held.

A modern laboratory financed by AIUT was officially opened today at the Centre of New Technologies of the Silesian University of Technology. This is another place that will serve scientists, but above all, students.

- We have the latest technologies entering the industry here. Thanks to this laboratory, students will have access to them on site, which will allow them to test different ways of using these technologies, their possible failures, and this, in turn, will allow them to gain practical experience needed in their future work - said dr hab. Eng. Anna Timofiejczuk , prof. SUT, the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

Scientists will also use this laboratory.

- In the same building there are also other laboratories of other strategic companies dealing with the development of modern technologies in Silesia. Thanks to this, they will be able to cooperate with each other and conduct joint research projects - added Dean Timofiejczuk.

The laboratory is equipped with two industrial autonomous vehicles and six stations for testing the software these vehicles are equipped with.

Prof. dr hab. Eng. Bogusław Łazarz, Vice-Rector for General Affairs, added that the experience that students can gain here is appreciated by employers in modern industry.

- Students can test here solutions related to the safety of autonomous vehicles and their drive, as well as those related to data collection and processing using the capabilities of artificial intelligence algorithms and modern communication. These are the areas of activity in which we, as the Silesian University of Technology, are interested. We want to participate in the creation of modern technologies and, consequently, in the process of implementing changes in the industry - said prof. Łazarz.

In turn, Marek Gabryś from AIUT added that both parties will benefit from cooperation between industry representatives and scientists.

- We are open to experiments. This laboratory will allow to test new solutions and create innovations. This is an opportunity for both scientists and students to stay up to date with market trends and, when entering the labour market, to know how such vehicles - autonomous mobile robots - are used in various plants. We want to share our global experience - added the president of AIUT.
