The Metropolis Game was created at the Silesian University of Technology to promote GZM
After the success of the Housing Estate Game, which was created at the Faculty of Architecture thanks to the cooperation of students with scientists from the Silesian University of Technology, it was time for another version of this project. The Metropolis Game - this is the name of the card game, which was created with the Upper Silesian-Zagłębie Metropolis in mind, has already been optimistically received by the GZM authorities and may soon become a new promotional gadget for the metropolis.
On January 30th, at the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology, there was an official presentation of a new game designed by students of this faculty together with their supervisor - dr hab. Eng. arch. Tomasz Bradecki, prof. SUT.
The Metropolis Game is the result of learning and work during classes as part of the city structure subject.
- This is a game dedicated to the Upper Silesian-Zagłębie Metropolis. All cards refer to its structure. They refer to the cities and communes that are part of the metropolis. The game can be played in several ways. The simplest version is to put together a puzzle. In this way, you can arrange the GZM map - explains the creator of the game, prof. Bradecki.
You can also play the popular war game with cards - each card symbolizes a town that has appropriate indicators assigned to it and towns can compete with each other.

The project has been supported from the beginning by the authorities of the Upper Silesian-Zagłębie Metropolis. The cards feature the GZM logo. Representatives of the metropolis were also present at the game's premiere.
- I believe that the form of a game is a very interesting way of transmitting knowledge in the field of spatial planning, which is not an easy issue. This innovative teaching approach can be very effective. We appreciate the students' participation in this project, it is proof of the ability to work in a group and implement the project from idea to implementation and contact with a possible buyer, in this case it will be GZM - emphasized Agnieszka Szczepańska-Góra, deputy director of the department of strategy and spatial policy of GZM, which has already announced that the cards will be an excellent promotional material for the metropolis. – We bring together 41 communes; it is quite a specific area and the game will help the region's inhabitants understand this structure. This is an excellent form of promotion for both GZM and the Silesian University of Technology, she added.
The game will also be available for purchase in the Silesian University of Technology store.
