"The Man of Annapurna" meeting at the CNT
How can science and medicine be useful in reading poetry? The answer to this question will be found during the meeting entitled “Talking about mountains, frostbite and poetry,” devoted to the interpretation of Halina Poświatowska’s poem “Man from Annapurna.”
The meeting will take place on February 26th at 18:00 in the Centre of New Technologies of the Silesian University of Technology.
When reading poetic works, it is worth looking for appropriate methods of interpretation, also outside the concepts related to literary studies, and using knowledge from other fields. In the case of Halina Poświatowska’s poem “Man from Annapurna,” these will be issues from natural and medical sciences that will allow to ask questions about a new understanding of the work and its context.
Halina Poświatowska is a poet from Częstochowa who debuted in 1956. Her first volume – “Hymn bałwochwalczy” – was published in 1957. She is an author who is most often associated with love poetry and works particularly marked by suffering caused by heart disease, which the poet began to suffer from in childhood.
A short lecture will be given by Aleksandra Wojaczek – associated with the Centre for the Popularization of Science, a member of the Academic Tourist Club "Watra" operating at the Silesian University of Technology.
We invite you to the 221D room in the New Technologies Centre on February 26 at 18:00. Entrance is free of charge. More information – Facebook event: https://fb.me/e/2Z1iqf1Q5.
